UNDERSTANDING PHENYLKETONURIA (PKU)

Phenylketonuria PKU is a rare inherited disorder. It affects the body's power to metabolize an essential nutrient called phenylalanine. Typically, the organs makes an enzyme called phenylalanine hydroxylase, which transforms phenylalanine into tyrosine. In people who have PKU, this enzyme is function properly. As a result, phenylalanine increases i
